Kick Back: It's Summer!

How is your summer going? Are you able to take some down time to support your health and well-being or are you still going at it at a frantic pace?

More and more information is coming out about how important it is to get our work-life balance in balance. This does not mean that those two things are mutually exclusive and even though a lot of us work from home these days we can still get that balance wrong.

What we are trying to remember is to have some fun throughout our day and yes even in our working day. That may feel alien to some of you and you could be saying “what fun in the work place? That’s not possible!”

It is possible that you’re not having fun at work because you have too much on or hate your job. However if you can change your attitude towards your job and workplace you might find it makes a difference. How do you do this?

Firstly, you can take a more light-hearted attitude to whatever it is you’re doing and by this I mean that you can adjust your thinking by feeling gratitude for all the other things in life that are working for you. This can allow you to not feel so bad about a job you dislike.

Next, you can make sure that you are getting plenty of rest and space to allow your mind to switch off on occasion and for your brain activity to calm down.

The importance of rest is so underestimated in our society today. We are constantly told to strive and push in order to get through our day and get what we want. But if you look at yoga for example one of the main postures is the ‘corpse pose’ which is lying down and doing nothing.

Recent studies have shown that people who take rest more seriously and of course there are different forms of that, are actually more productive. Why? Because research shows that rest can play a part in enhancing the brain and its activities, so by resting you are actually empowering your brain to work more effectively.

So kicking back with some delicious summer strawberries or going for a walk in nature has even more health benefits than we ever knew!
